Projects
Selected work
Here is a selection of my work–books, client games, and personal games. All of these projects have meant a lot to me, and I'm always looking forward to the new work I'll do in the future.
Game - Personal
The Forest & the Trees
I made this game from the assets of a project about a maple syrup heist, that I began making pixel art for a decade ago. Confronted with the possibility of never finishing, I instead repurposed it into a memoir made from recycled things.
Game - Creative Direction
Invincible Presents: Atom Eve
For this visual novel with turn-based combat and light RPG elements, adapted from the Invincible comic books and Amazon prime animated series, I provided creative vision and leadership, and comedy to help bring beloved characters to life.
Game - Lead Writing
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
I joined the team late in production and participated in streamlining the cast of characters and story structure, before writing all main story cinematics and gameplay dialogue, in collaboration with Eidos Montreal's animation, and narrative departments.
Game - Lead Writing
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
I joined Richard Farrese as co-lead writer to craft the story with the team at Ubisoft Sofia, and co-write cinematics, gameplay dialogue, and barks.
YA Novel
Break on Through
My first published novel, about a crew of teenage b-girls was inspired by my own love of breakdancing, and was released in February, 2008
Game - Editorial Consulting
été
For this joyous creative ode to Montreal in the summer., I provided narrative consultation from the early stages of the project, through every iteration, participating in brainstorming, acting as a sounding board, working through plots and structures, helping evaluate portfolios and resumés..
Game - Scriptwriting
Boyfriend Dungeon DLC
In this branching narrative romance (with a sprinkling of stats and buffs), I mainly got to explore my big feelings about skating and sewing, which made the athletic character of Leah the Hammer more personal than expected. (As far as I know, I am not actually a hammer.)
Game - Narrative Design
The Big Con
I provided design direction, providing narrative structure and plot, defining narrative loops, and turning the idea of conning into a repeatable action. I set the comic voice for the game, and had fun inventing faux 90's products like Burblos, Horm, and that taste sensation– Crystal Horm.
Game - Lead Narrative Design
Subnautica: Below Zero
Joining production once environments and character models were built and the story direction was set, I collaborated with a tools programmer, recruited and managed writers, wrote cinematics and gameplay dialogue, participated in casting and provided feedback during voice-over sessions.
Game - Scriptwriting
Long Story
For this heartwarming middle-grade LGBTQ+ friendly dating sim, I pitched story ideas and wrote two episodes.
Game - Scriptwriting
Fated
For this VR walking simulator, I provided story development and scriptwriting, using the environments and characters already established, streamlining the story to best highlight the game's mechanics and focus player attention on their journey and connection to characters around them.
Game - Scriptwriting
Moon Hunters
For this procedural co-op ”personality test” adventure, I developed characters and self-contained branching stories and dialogue, inspired by mythology.
Game - Lead Writing
Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry
Nominee: WGA Award for Excellence in Videogame Writing, 2015 I developed the story with the team at Ubisoft Quebec, wrote cinematics and gameplay dialogue, and managed writers at external studios.
Game - Scriptwriting
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Joining the team in the final year of production, I wrote side missions, multiplayer dialogue, and DLC, balancing the needs of three studios.
Game - Scriptwriting
Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012
For my first project in the videogame industry, I was able to convince the team that the dance writing from my breakdance books qualified me to write fitness instructions for players.
YA Novel
Rhythm & Blues
In my second YA novel, Alya's dancing gets her recruited into a girl group, nevermind that she can't sing.
